Schools within most public school districts share incoming tax revenue equally. These funds usually cover teacher salaries, student consumables (think workbooks) and durables (think Math manipulatives and whiteboards). What separates schools by additional financial resources is a functioning PTA and/or Foundation. PTAs and Foundations can pay for extras such as classroom setup, easels, rugs, and additional educational materials. They can also pay to replace items such as microscopes and library books. Generally, Title 1 schools are ones without PTAs/Foundations, and so our clients are first-year teachers at Title 1 Schools. Benefactors of our grants include first-year teachers, their students, and the greater school community.
Teachers can apply for New Teacher Beginning of the School Year Grants and Special Project Grants. New Teachers at Title 1 Schools can use Beginning of the School Year Grants to purchase classroom libraries, wall posters and decor, easels, rugs, organizational and educational materials. Special Project Grants, for any Title 1 teacher, provide needed or replace broken educational materials.
Title 1 Principles do receive extra funding due to the amount of families who apply for free or reduced lunch. These principals are faced with students who often perform lower on state tests and a community of learners with limited background knowledge. Many principals use funding to decrease the class size and have little left for any other needed items. We provide support for principals who have school wide or Teacher Appreciation projects that require funding.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
